lovely day planned?...

Warning, this is a rant!..
Today id arranged for three friends plus kids to come over for lunch, as my garden is quite big we thought it best they come here rather than anywhere else....firstly, i draw back the curtains to rain, rain, rain, i spent most of yesterday afternoon sprucing the garden up as it was quite messy, it was so hot i got a real workout sweating as i pulled out the patio weeds!

This is the scene i had in mind!
Secondly,I went to tesco yesterday and bought lovely bread mini cakes for the kids, fruit snacks etc, then came home and made flapjacks and granny buns. I thought french tick for the adults and mini cucumber sandwiches for the kids woud be perfect, also bought some special mummy fizzy drink(not alcoholic but expensive!).....so, 4 mummies,7 kids, plenty of food eh?
Well, friend A returned my 'please can you bring kiddies drinks message' call last night, only to say she'd promised to visit a friend who was camping locally today, and so were'nt coming-surely she'd have known this 2 weeks ago when the get together was arranged?! Then, THIS MORNING, friend B text, to say, do you mind if i bring food for myself and the kids as im sticking to my diet(which has been going on for 6 years, 2 stone lost!)and the kids are really fussy!!!!!!!!!!!!! WELL, my reply text may have been a little 'blue', she quickly retracted, saying 'oh yes, bread will be fine'!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im sorry, but how hard is it to arrange a straightforward get together with three friends? I do feel quite let down to be honest, friend B hasnt visited this house yet and she's quite a 'NEXT' girl, you know the type, a home which is all beige and not a thing out of place, and the farm, well, its at the other end of the spectrum really isnt it?! So the last couple of days have been spent tidying cleaning, sprucing, alot of 'no you cant get the barbies/farm/happyland people ou't has been shouted'....and for what???

Friend C,she's bringing her springer spaniel Ruby over, so at least murphy will have a good day!
I just feel like i shouldnt have bothered going to much effort,am i right to feel a little pissed off, or am i just turning into one of these....
what do you girls think?...

I think you have a right to be pissed off, BUT I hope that you don't need to be once the day gets started and that it turns out to be better than expected. I shall tell the sun that's here to go your way too ;o)

Oh I am sorry things are not going to plan. Why do people do this? How disappointing. I hope the day clears up and you have a lovely time.

I think you are right to be disappointed. If things were being planned since 2 weeks ago, is more than expected to inform you about any change or food matter before hand.
Anyway, hope the sun shines and you have a lovely time.

Oh I HATE it when people do that and let you down. I had a friend who did it every single time we were meant to meet and in the end I gave up on her all together.

I hope you still have a nice time anyway and I would be pissed off too!

Hugs, Mel xxx

Invite some more appreciative types as well! If I lived closer I'd come over - sounds fab! But I'm sure that it will all be better than you think, and you will have a good time. Just don't invite the unreliable ones again!

Yes I often think that is the way people are nowadays. They just dont think of other peoples feelings.

One of my oldest and best friends was a bit like that. Wouldnt think twice about letting you down and being scatteredbrain and late all the time was her "thing". It all came to a head about 5yrs ago when she let me down at a bad time in my life. Needless to say we arent friends anymore. Its a shame as I miss her. But I cant be doing with the I might come round or I will come over a 9pm after I have done this this and this, or dosnt turn up at all. Life is too short.

Hope your day turns out great in the end.And you dont end up pulling your hair out.

How annoying is that!!!!

I'm sick of so called friends who do this and its for that reason I decided that enough was enough and stopped doing it...the final straw was when a "friend" decided that she was too good to come and slum it( as you know I live in a slightly less up market slice of Manchester)....
When I am asked somewhere I go and am very upset when ppl cancel or just don't turn up.....its very rude!

I'd have come like a shot......and a humble cup of tea would have been good enough!

Your a lovely person!xxx

Although the upstairs of my house looks like a small nuclear weapon has been let off a great time was had by all the kids...thats four hours of my life i wont get back but it was a very sunny day and we had nice chit chat so all wa snot lost.....When i said i'd decided not to bake a cream/jam/victoria sponge the 'diet' friend exclaimed 'ooh, im sure i'd have forced some down'.............!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd have been very angry and would have made it known.
Why do people do this? I never make plans unless I know I can stick to them. I want to meet up with a few friends at the mo but know I may have to cancel so have decided to wait until I can make firm plans and be 100% about being able to make it.

Glad it all turned out well!

I'll email you tomorrow!xx

Definitely cause to be irritated there, I think. Sometimes when spanners get chucked into the works, things turn out better than originally planned anyway. Most people have had a 'friend' like that and sometimes its best to just 'cut loose' I did with my 'friend' she never turned up on soo many occasions that my patience just ran out eventually.
Glad it turned out to be a good day after all

Oh I completely sympathsise, you are quite right to be annoyed.

A lot of people these days seem to make plans and quite happily change their minds about them how they see fit!

OH HO (she says with hands on hips) your post sounds just like the kind of trouble I have trying to have nice days with friends. Most of them don't seem to be able to get on with each other, even for the sake of just letting me have a couple of hours with them, for me's sake. No they can't. I also have a beige friend who thinks my cosy crafty pet filled home with veg patch out the back (trying desperately to ignore the fact I live in suburbia when i'm really a country girl at heart) is just not on. When she visits I feel the queen is about to arrive - drives me mad. But i've decided stuff it, I just get on with it now if she doesn't like it she can keep her comments to herself. And I don't invite them all over any more, we go out for days in the park and if they want to start b*tching I can wander off with my dog and not get depressed because i haven't gone to too much trouble.

wow, im overwhelmed by all your support ladies, thanks so much! It makes me think we should have a huge bloggy get together...maybe next summer?!
The 'beige friend'said, i dont think i could live in the country, i mean, i couldnt possibly cope wth the bugs everywhere, and the dirt-she'd let her baby crawl on freshly mown grass and was filthy-quite funny i thought! She also said, no i couldnt possibly have a dog, i cant stand it when they lick your hands or your face-yeah because murphy is always randomly licking me to death! Stupid woman! lol xxxxx

It seems we all know women like this. I've found as I've got older I put up with it less and less and would rather enjoy my own company than compromise or be irritated. This is the first summer I've done more on my own with the girls than bother arranging meetings with people who cancel at the last minute. I get more irritated when my girls have been looking forward to seeing their friends and the mothers endlessly cancel and let us down.

I think you just need to start sorting out if you really like these people or they just fill a hole. Sad, but true really as most friendships are just time fillers, only a few really good ones. Sorry I sound cynical. I'm actually really happy.

Sod em I say and just laugh at their silliness.
